UNICEF condemns attacks on Libyan children
Tripoli, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) office in the Libyan capital expressed regret on reports of injuries to children during a bombardment carried out by forces of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar against an equestrian training school in Tripoli.
In a statement, UNICEF called on the parties to the conflict to fully comply with international humanitarian law and keep children away from harm.
The office also expressed deep concern over the devastating consequences of the armed conflict in Libya, noting that civilians are the most affected by the indiscriminate use of weapons, particularly in populated urban areas. The fighting in Libya began on April 4, when Marshal Haftar ordered his so-called Libyan National Army to march on the capital.
Since then, intense clashes have developed in the south of the city between Haftar's troops and the Army affiliated with the Presidential Council, a government recognized by the UN.
