UN calls for the release of 5600 immigrants from shelters in Libya

The United Nations called for the release of 5, 600 immigrants from accommodation centres in Libya and their evacuation to other countries.

It also stressed that it would not allow another tragedy, such as the air strike of the migrant shelter in Tajoura district of Tripoli.

Deputy spokesman of the United Nations Secretary-General, Farhan Haq emphasized the need to provide protection for migrants in Libya, or to evacuate them to other countries, underlining that protecting human life is a top priority.

He also pointed out that the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the International Organization for Migration have appealed to the European and African Unions to prevent any further tragedy for migrants in Libya and that migrants must be repatriated voluntarily to their countries. source
