Libyan Foreign Minister: We hope for normal relations with Israel

Abd al-Hadi al-Hajj, foreign minister to General Khalifa Hefter's administration backed by the Libyan National Army (LNA), has told Maariv that he hoped Libya could establish normal relations with Israel if the Palestinian problem was resolved. The group currently controls a section of eastern Libya."We are a member state of the Arab League and committed to its UN decisions and decisions," he explained, during a trip to Paris. "We support the rights of the people, including the rights of the Palestinian people. But we support regional peace and counter-terrorism, and fight [terrorism] in Libya as well."Tripoli's government enjoys the support of Russia, France, Egypt, the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia, among others.According to Hajj, extremist Islamic groups in the country are backed by Turkey and Qatar On Wednesday, agreements were signed between Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Fayez al-Serraj, the head of the Tripoli-based government which Ankara is backing against a rival military force based in eastern Libya.Hajj strongly condemned Turkey''s activities in the Middle East, Turkey's intervention, and deal signed with the Tripoli government.He also dismissed the oil agreements signed by the Tripoli government, because "What interests them is only terrorism, arms and oil. Education, computing and modernization must be taken care of, to improve the population's lives."The transitional government refuses Qatar's participation in the International Libyan Settlement Conference, which will enter Germany in mid-December, demanding the participation of European countries.The US is supporting counter-terrorism solutions in the region, and is thought to be operating unmanned aircraft there. It has called on Tripoli to stop shooting drones after one was shot down by its "National Liberation Army."A US-level delegation designed with Hefter claims to allow Russia's penetration into Libya.
