Libya: US will attend the Berlin Conference With Pompeo and O'Brien. The aim is to be protagonist in crisis
(ANSAmed) - WASHINGTON, JANUARY 15 - The United States has decided to attend the Berlin Conference on Libya scheduled for Sunday in Berlin, sending US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien, ANSA has learned from sources close to the White House.
This significant presence aims to show the US's intention to be a protagonist in the Libyan crisis, staving off growing diplomatic efforts being made by Russia.
The decision comes after a January 12 phone call between US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, a key figure in orchestrating the Berlin Conference, in which they spoke about the crisis in Libya and security in the Middle East.(ANSAmed).
