Libya: Four power units at Al-Zawiya electricity plant out of service

The General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) said gas turbine units 1, 2, 3 and 4 have gone nonoperational at Al-Zawiya power plant, thus deceasing the general network's power production by 600 megawatts.

The director of Al-Zawiya plant said the plant's workers had begun working on restarting power at the units, while a source at the plant added that such a loss of power at the units would worsen the power shortage crisis and increase load shedding hours.

The source also explained that preparing work should be quick in order to avoid a total blackout in the western region in the coming two days.

Meanwhile, GECOL denied that Ubari units had joined the power network, saying the social media news about such a thing is untrue.

GECOL urged for consulting with the media office of the company before publishing any news.

"The Ubari power plant will be operating starting next July and will boost the general electricity network." GECOL added.

Tripoli and surrounding areas have been suffering from 6 to 7 hours of power outage a day over the last five days.
