CAIRO, June 13 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday expressed Egypt's support for efforts by the Libyan army to eliminate terrorist groups in the war-torn country, the presidency office said.
Sisi's remarks came during his meeting with President of the Libyan House of Representatives Aguila Saleh Issa.
Libya has been struggling to make a democratic transition amid insecurity and chaos ever since the fall of former leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
The oil-rich country has since witnessed the confrontation between two rival governments that are based in the western city of Tripoli and the eastern city of Tobruk respectively.
The east-based army, led by Khalifa Haftar, has been leading a military campaign since early April to take over the capital Tripoli.
A total of 607 people have since been killed and 3,261 others injured in the fighting in and around Tripoli, according to the World Health Organization.
