Egypt Advocates Solution to Libyan Crisis without External Meddling
Cairo, Aug 14 ( Prensa Latina) The Egyptian government stated Wednesday that the solution to the crisis in Libya must be agreed exclusively by Libyans, without interference or dictates from outside parties.
In a statement, Ahmed Hafez, spokesman for Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, referred to the meetings between Libyan political parties and members of the House of Representatives held recently in Cairo.
The official also praised the humanitarian truce declared by the parties to the conflict on the occasion of the Islamic festivities of Eid Al-Adha, describing it as a step in the right direction towards the possibility of peace.
Hafez reiterated the need for the parties to declare their categorical rejection before the international community of foreign intervention in Libyan affairs through the supply or arms or the transfer of terrorist fighters to Libya.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman urged the Libyan parties to adopt a clear and unequivocal position to distance themselves from terrorist and criminal groups, especially those on the Security Council's sanctions lists.
In this regard, he deplored the recent terrorist attack in the Libyan city of Benghazi and offered his condolences to the families of the victims.
The fighting in Libya began on April 4, when Marshal Khalifa Haftar ordered the Libyan National Army to march on Tripoli. Since then there has been heavy fighting in the south of Tripoli.
