(MENAFN - Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Arab League Secretary General Ahmad Abul Gheit called on Monday for immediate de-escalation of military operations in Libya in order for the warring parties to reach a ceasefire around Tripoli.
Abul Gheit made the call during a meeting with Mohammad Sayala, foreign minister in Libya's Government of National Accord, during which the two officials discussed security and political situations in Libya, the league said in a statement.
Abul Gheit said the Arab League was exerting great efforts to defuse tension in Libya, and to encourage the parties resume the UN-sponsored political process.
Sayala is in Cairo to participate in an Arab Foreign Ministers' meeting, due tomorrow Tuesday. (end)
